An interesting exchange between Selecta and Crystal on the relative merits of make/buy and a debate that no doubt will come to the fore with increased legislation and control being introduced, something I know dear to your heart! The real answer of course is to do your homework with tangible information and look at what you run your business for, what you are good at and model the changes before you make them. Ultimately 'don't ask a barber if you need a haircut' is the principle to adopt! There is no universal answer only the right answer given your own businesses circumstances.
We've run this exercise for a number of systems companies and fabricators over the years and sometimes they like the answer and sometimes they don't as the 'target' gets a truly independent view but ultimately persuading a customer to adopt a strategy that doesn't let him win in a highly competitive marketplace is a recipe for both parties to loose.
