Aztec Windows upgrades customers using Timberweld ® technology

Coventry based PVC-U fabricator, Aztec Windows, is delighted with Timberweld®. Timberweld is a patented method of welding perfect corners to create an authentic timber-look butt-joint effect on both sides of the window.

For many years there was virtually only one way to make PVC-U frames, and that was with 45º angle corner-weld and groove. However, as the popularity of a traditional timber look has grown – particularly with flush sash windows – the question is how can fabricators provide it cost effectively? Michael Hagan, Director of Aztec Windows, comments: “When customers see the alternative to standard windows, they immediately want to upgrade. The timber look was previously used mainly for the heritage market but is now becoming traditional mainstream and much more popular in the general market.

“We have been offering flush casements with Timberweld but have now ordered the machinery to produce composite door outerframes and lipped casements as well as a few more products which we hope to launch in November, giving us the largest range of timber alternative products available. Production has now become second nature to our staff and Timberweld has provided great service throughout,” Michael adds.

Alan Burgess, Timberweld MD and pioneer of the innovative technology, explains:“Timberweld creates the appearance of a traditional timber window with a vertical line rather than a 45º angle. This produces an authentic look to the window, both inside and outside, which homeowners love!

“As Michael highlights, the timber look has become increasingly popular, and with the right machinery makes producing the frames at scale very cost effective,” Alan concludes.

Timberweld® is a patented method of welding PVC-U frames which creates an authentic timber butt-joint effect – on both sides of the window, inside and out. Alan Burgess (who designed the UK’s first dedicated PVC-U box sash in 1984 and is credited with creating the PVC-U sliding sash market) and Masterframe Technical Director Ray Rabett, are the innovators behind the Timberweld technology.

Simple mechanical or butt joints tend to be open-ended, allowing rainwater, draughts and even flies in. Timberweld uses a different method of corner construction, so the edges are completely sealed, yet the resultant timber-look butt-jointed weld, is easily the most authentic on the market.
