Pilkington is delighted to announce that it will back rugby Super League club St Helens as a key sponsor for the rest of this season. The Saints, World Club Champions for 2007, are once again topping the Super League and are also due to face Bradford Bulls in the Challenge Cup Semi Final in their campaign to retain the trophy they won last season.
St Helens RLFC will carry the Pilkington Activ™ brand on the front of the player’s shirts in key matches for the balance of the 2007 season. If the club succeeds in its quest to reach the two major trophies for which it is vying, it will take the Saints and with them, the Pilkington Activ™ name on the players’ shirts, to live audiences totalling as many as 160,000 at Wembley and Manchester United’s Old Trafford and a TV audience of up to 3 million for each game.
The Pilkington Activ™ brand will appear on Saints shirts for the Challenge Cup semi final to be played on July 28th and, if successful, the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley on 25th August. The sponsorship deal also includes the Super League play offs and hopefully the Grand Final in October. The arrangement will exist just until the end of the 2007 season in November at which point both parties will be able to review its success.
The deal is causing considerable excitement at Pilkington says Marketing Communications Manager Julia Berkin, “Pilkington and The Saints have lived side-by-side for more than 100 years and this is a most exciting episode in our mutual history with St Helens’ two leading teams joining forces more closely at a time which is important to both of us. Obviously there will be tremendous benefits to Pilkington Activ™ and we will ensure that our customers get the most out of this tie up. We are all cheering even louder for The Saints now – it will be fantastic if they go all the way!”
