Pilkington glazing is helping a new office in Reading stay cool with its cutting edge range of solar control glazing.
Lakeview at Arlington Business Park Reading, home to three new office buildings, makes extensive use of Pilkington Suncool™ Brilliant 66/33. Installer Red Architectural specified 2000m2 of the glass for curtain walling in the impressive three storey structures, which make up the final phase of the development. Situated just one hour from London and developed by owners Goodman, the new complex offers up to 110,495 sq ft of office space and is on a site where global businesses such as KPMG, Vodafone and PepsiCo already have offices.
Pilkington Suncool™ is a range of specially formulated coated glass that keeps solar heat gain to a minimum, while its low emissivity and thermal insulation properties allow internal heat to be retained. Therefore the temperature of the offices can be controlled making the most of energy efficiency and reducing the need for air-conditioning. The glazing is available in a selection of colours and shades to control light transmittance – from clear to grey.
Daniel Winters, Architect, Aukett, Fitzroy, Robinson said: “We wanted to create inviting office spaces, so we used large amounts of glass within curtain walling. The office plans are around 20 metres deep, and the glazing ensures the space remains bright and airy and creates a positive working environment.
“As well as letting plenty of light in, the glazing helps to maintain a connection with the exterior, which is very pleasant, thanks to the site’s picturesque lake and attractive landscaping. Specifying Pilkington Suncool™ Brilliant allows us to design a bright work space that has attractive views, without creating uncomfortable, overheated and stuffy offices.”
