Kömmerling window, door and conservatory fabricator, Finesse, recently backed a charity equestrian fun day to raise vital funds for a local youngster diagnosed with a rare skin condition.
Earlier this year 3-year old Alice Tyson, from Carlisle, was diagnosed with Xeroderma Pigmentosum (XP), a rare genetic disorder of DNA repair which limits the ability to repair damage to the skin caused by ultraviolet light. Exposure to sunlight would cause immediate severe sunburn and eye irritation, thus increasing her risk of getting cancer or going blind. As a result Alice must stay indoors or wear full protective clothing whenever outdoors.
The fun day was held on Sunday 24th August and was successful despite it being relocated to the Greenlands Indoor Horse and Pony Area, just outside Carlisle, after its original outdoor venue in Moorhouse fell victim to the poor weather.
The programme of events started at 10am with Jump Cross and Tack & Turnout, with other events during the day including show-jumping and pony games. Finesse supplied trophies and rosettes which were awarded throughout the day whilst a raffle was also held with prizes including equestrian and farming supplies. At the most recent count a total of £553 had been raised for Alice, with further expected donations still yet to be received.
The daughters of Kevin McGarr, Director at Finesse, and his wife Angela, one of the two main organisers of the event, both attend the same school as Alice.
“Alice’s plight has captured the hearts of everyone in this very tight knit community,” says Kevin. “We were extremely keen to support her as she is a lovely girl with her whole future ahead of her, plus we share the concerns of her parents, Neil and Tracey, given the fact that we have children of a similar age.”
Leza Smith, Marketing and Business Development manager at Finesse, adds, “Both Angela and co-organiser Jane McIntyre-Ward worked very hard in arranging this event, especially as it had to be moved indoors at the last minute due to the bad weather. We are delighted at the amount of money raised and we hope it will allow Alice to enjoy hobbies and life just like any other girl her age.”
Its sponsorship of the fun day is not the first time Finesse has offered its assistance to Alice’s cause. Since her diagnosis the company has worked hard to not only tint all the windows in her house and school, allowing her to walk around with ease and safety, but also tinting the family car.
Established in 1984, Finesse has been installing conservatories, windows and doors throughout Cumbria, the Lake District and South West Scotland for bordering on twenty five years. Kevin Warner, Sales Director at Finesse’s supplier Kömmerling, comments, “It is always great to see any Kömmerling fabricator sponsoring an event within its local community, but this cause is particularly touching. The work Finesse has undertaken to make Alice’s life that much easier is terrific and we are proud to be its profile supplier.”
