The new website for Pilkington Activ™ www.pilkingtonselfcleaningglass.co.uk is incredibly bright and clear both in its general appearance and imagery but also in its ease of use – appropriate then for the world’s first self-cleaning glass.
In setting out to improve on the previous website, Pilkington’s designers have created one that is fresh, contemporary, with vibrant, inspirational images, all of which offers an appropriate ‘clean’ feel.
The colour-coded navigation is featured on the top left throughout each page on the site, which corresponds neatly to the specific section the user is in. Each section has its own identifiable colour-coded panels, which when clicked in turn, tell the story of Pilkington Activ™ in an engaging and importantly, informative way.
The progression begins with a guide to which type of Pilkington Activ™ is right for the user, followed by an explanation of how the world’s first self-cleaning glass works. ‘Where to use it’ and a ‘Supplier’s Guide’ – which lists the Approved Installers–followed by a literature download section, and news about the product. A special section offers guidance to trade users and the opportunity to become a Pilkington ActivTM registered partner.
Julia Berkin, Marketing Communications Manager for Pilkington Activ™ says she is delighted with the new website: “As you enter the homepage it instantly has a strong visual impact and immediately creates a positive mood for the user. Everyone that has tried it finds it exceptionally easy to navigate and there is lots of information available. It will be welcomed by users who will be encouraged to go to the website by all of the marketing activity that continues to support Pilkington Activ™, especially the new sponsorship package for the UKTV “Home Sweet Home” strand of programmes.
“We encourage Pilkington Activ™ installers to make the most of the new website, to assist their sales but also to take advantage of the support materials and information specifically developed for them,” added Julia.
The secret of Pilkington Activ™ is its special coating, which works in two stages. Firstly, the coating reacts with ultra-violet (UV) rays from natural daylight to break down organic dirt. The second part of the process commences when water hits the glass. Rainwater sheets down the glass to wash loosened dirt (both organic and inorganic) away. Compared with conventional glass, the water dries very quickly, reducing unsightly streaks or marks.
