New Pilkington K Glass™ OW provides a ratings boost

Pilkington takes another step forward in the energy efficient evolution with the introduction of Pilkington K Glass™ OW - the first development in the Pilkington K Glass™ range of energy efficient glazing products designed for use within the new family of Pilkington energiKare™ products.

Pilkington takes another step forward in the energy efficiency evolution with the introduction of Pilkington K Glass™ OW - the latest development in the Pilkington K Glass™ range of energy efficient glazing products designed for use within the Pilkington energiKare™ range.

Pilkington K Glass™ OW is an improved form of Pilkington K Glass™, the UK’s leading low emissivity glass product. Offering increased light transmission, improved solar gain and a brighter appearance, Pilkington K Glass™ OW helps to achieve improved Window Energy Ratings (WERs) in the greatest available range of profiles. So, when incorporated into the Pilkington energiKare™ system, Pilkington K Glass™ OW makes it even easier to produce A-rated windows.

Andy McDowell, National Business Development Manager, Pilkington, said: “Pilkington energiKare™ is going from strength to strength – we now have more than 350 Partners signed up to the scheme and Pilkington K Glass™ OW is an invaluable addition to the range, allowing the cost effective production of windows that achieve an A rating. The brighter appearance might also prove useful for those customers seeking to improve the appeal of their current offering without necessarily wishing to increase the rating to straight A’s – Pilkington K Glass OW can provide the solution here too.

“The increase in solar gain helps to improve window energy ratings meaning lower heating bills, whilst the increased light transmission helps to create a brighter environment reducing the need for artificial lighting and further reducing energy costs. As we move a step closer to the changes to Part L of the Building Regulations in 2010, these factors are becoming ever more important.”

Pilkington energiKare™ is made up of two special types of glass, Pilkington K Glass™, the UK’s best selling low emissivity glass which stops heat escaping and Pilkington Optiwhite™, a special ‘extra clear’ glass which allows more solar heat in through the windows. Pilkington energiKare™ IGUs achieve a minimum BFRC Window Energy Rating of C and can be improved to B or A by the addition of Argon gas filling, warm edge spacer bar technology or the introduction of the new Pilkington K Glass™ OW. All windows containing Pilkington energiKare™ have the potential to gain the Energy Saving Trust’s Energy Saving Recommended status.

Achieving a similar performance to soft coat glass, with none of the associated increased processing costs, handling problems and shelf life limitations, Pilkington K Glass™ OW is suitable for use in PVC-U, timber, and aluminium profiles, for both new and replacement windows. It can also be toughened, laminated and glazed in the same way as the original Pilkington K Glass™, offering a wide variety of options to range.

Available exclusively for use within Pilkington energiKare™ insulating glass units, stockists of Pilkington K Glass™ OW will also benefit from the association with the most recognised low E glass brand, along with the backing of an extensive promotional campaign.
