Pilkington is the proud winner of two awards at the glittering G09 Awards. Taking place at the home of football, Wembley Stadium, Pilkington were top of the league in the Glass Project of the Year and Health and Safety Initiative of the Year categories.

Following on from its success in the Health and Safety category last year, Pilkington once again showed that it had placed health and safety at the centre of its business strategy, this time focusing on its commercial team. Over the past year Pilkington has implemented many initiatives, including working with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA), to ensure safety is paramount amongst its employees when out on the road. A measurement scheme has also been implemented to help identify improvements and learning areas which are applicable to the commercial sector of Pilkington Building Products.

The subject of Glass Project of the Year was the Grade 1 listed Dragon Hall, utilising the innovative Pilkington Planar™ system in its new north wing. One of the most important historic buildings in Norfolk, the glazing is part of a £1.8million Heritage Lottery restoration of the building which has been transformed into a museum. Pilkington Architectural specified 135m2 of Pilkington Planar™ incorporating Pilkington Optiwhite™ T Plus glazing, including supporting glass beams.

Matt Buckley, Commercial Director, West, said: “We are thrilled to win two such prestigious awards at the glass and glazing event of the year. Winning the Health and Safety Initiative for the second year running is especially pleasing and recognises the effort everyone at Pilkington has made to ensure the safety of employees. Our win in Glass Project of the Year showcases the flexibility of the Pilkington Planar™ system and how architects can utilise the glazing to produce stunning facades - no matter the project size.”
