Popularity of Pilkington Energikare™ explodes with part L

As part of the Pilkington energiKare™ range, sales of Pilkington Optiwhite™ sky rocketed by over 300% in 2009 highlighting the demand for energy-efficient glazing amongst window companies and homeowners. This demand looks set to increase again in 2010 with the government amending Part L of the Building Regulations 2010 to reduce CO₂ emissions within new and existing homes.

The sales of Pilkington K Glass™ continue to grow despite the difficult market, confirming the demand for energy-efficient glazing and opportunities for Pilkington customers to add value to their IGUs. Both products are integral to the Pilkington energiKare™ range which can deliver homeowner savings of more than 20 tonnes of CO₂ and £1600 over the lifespan of the window.

Andy McDowell, National Sales Manager, Pilkington said, “These sales show that homeowners are becoming more energy-efficient, demanding higher performance products to save energy in their homes and also money off their fuel bills. 2009 has been a testing year for the UK and our industry. Trade customers have recognised the benefits of using Pilkington K Glass™ and Pilkington Optiwhite™ which can both be easily stocked and processed and represent the ideal solution to meeting Window Energy Ratings (WERs) with branding that homeowners will recognise”

Pilkington K Glass™ forms the inner pane of a Pilkington energiKare™ Insulating Glass Unit (IGU). The coating reflects heat back into the room whilst also letting in free heat from the sun known as passive solar gain. Pilkington K Glass™ helps windows to achieve higher WERs to meet and exceed the forthcoming changes to Building Regulations Part L.

The Pilkington energiKare™ family is a range of energy-efficient glazing for all property types. As well as Pilkington energiKare™ Classic which offers a WER rating of C and simple cost-effective compliance with the new regulations, the range also comprises of Pilkington energiKare™ Triple ideal for low carbon new homes, Pilkington energiKare™ Plus which can achieve a WER rating of A or B and Pilkington energiKare™ Legacy which is ideal for improving the energy efficiency of older buildings without changing the aesthetics of the property. From new homes to traditional buildings, the Pilkington energiKare™ family meets and exceeds the proposed changes to Building Regulations for UK and Ireland, in 2010 and beyond.
