Sealed unit manufacturer Hourglass Seal celebrated a strategic investment of £400,000 in fully automated machinery with a very successful open day at its headquarters in Gloucester.
Despite a bleak economic climate, Hourglass has bucked the trend with the investment into a state-of-the-art For.El Double Glazing Line from Promac. The machine has increased capacity at the factory from 2,000 to 3,500 units a week. It will also enable Hourglass to maintain its position as a leader in the field and provide its customers with the most technically advanced products available in the marketplace today.
The Right Worshipful Mayor of Gloucester Andy Lewis unveiled the new machinery, which brings the very latest technology, including a fully automatic Super Spacer Applicator, Argon Gas Coupling Press and Sealing Robot. It is capable of producing the highest performing, most cost effective and energy efficient sealed units, which benefit from Edgetech’s market leading warm edge solution Super Spacer.
Andy Lewis said: “I was very pleased to unveil this wonderful new piece of kit, which will help this local business to both increase capacity and improve product quality. In such an uncertain economic climate, it is great to see a company investing and working hard to secure a strong future for itself. But this investment has much wider benefits for our environment too and I am delighted that the units it produces will help homeowners to ultimately improve insulation and cut energy bills in their homes.”
Andy Thomas, sales and marketing director at Hourglass Seal, added: “This investment - all the more significant during a serious economic downturn - marks our commitment to be at the very forefront of glass technology. It’s a pledge to support our customers with the most innovative products, manufactured to a consistently high standard with minimal chance for error. We believe that legislation will only continue to tighten as far as the energy performance of a window is concerned, so this move will also help our customers to future-proof their businesses and steal a march on their competitors with the best performing products.”
As well as almost doubling capacity to 3,500 units a week on a single shift basis, the new machine minimises the handling required on the sealed units, which in turn reduces the chance of units being marked or damaged. Super Spacer brings many benefits to Hourglass’s sealed units; further improved energy performance, reduced condensation and greater durability. It is also the best product to use in triple glazed units, which Hourglass has been manufacturing for some time. And because the desiccant is impregnated into the spacer, the risk of any finding its way into the unit is eliminated.
Alan Fielder, sales and marketing director at Edgetech, said: "Hourglass Seal is a great example of a company investing for the future. As the market leading Warm Edge Technology manufacturer, Edgetech is pleased to support their ongoing development. The open day event was a great opportunity for Hourglass Seal to show the local and trade media the significance of the investment they have made and the benefits it will give them, their employees and their customers."
Wayne Hunter, service director at Promac, added: “From the initial planning stages right through to the installation, this has been a great project to work on. Key to its success has been the fantastic teamwork enjoyed between people from both Promac and Hourglass Seal, pulling together effectively to ensure the project ran as planned. We look forward to building on the relationship in the years to come to ensure the production and performance requirements continue to be met.”
